Your role and responsibilities
ABB Corporate Research Center in Sweden is located in Västerås, about 100 kilometers west of Stockholm. Together with our colleagues in other R&D centers we develop technologies for future products and services of ABB's core businesses. In the Robotics team we focus on robot concepts / design, autonomous and intelligent robot, and robot applications in both industrial and service robot segments Electrical machine is one of the key components in robot drivetrain.
Strain wave gear and servo motor- based robot actuators have reached performance saturation regarding power density and torque density.
To understand different state-of-the-art electrical machine topologies, and to conduct machine design and analysis for the most suitable topology can push industry robot performance to its next level.
Research topics: Electrical Machine Design & Analysis for Industry Robot Applications.Goal(s): 1. Study different motor topologies according to industry robot actuator specifications 2.
Design an electrical machine with the most suitable topology for actuator specifications 3.
Conduct machine analysis with simulation and experiments(if applicable) Details:- 6 month (Janurary, 2025 till June, 2025)

- Since lab work involved, the MS student need to come ABB office in Västerås

- Simulation study on different electrical machine topologies for industry robot actuator specifications
- Design an electrical machine for the most suitable topology and conduct machine analysis with simulation and experiments(if applicable)
- Knowledge on electrical engineering
- Knowledge on electrical machine design and analysis is an advantage
- Knowledge on mechatronics is an advantage
