This is a unique opportunity for professionals with a strong background in radiation safety, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance to be a key player in ensuring the safety and reliability of complex neutron scattering instruments and associated systems.

You will be working with a team of experts to perform hazard analysis and define radiation safety functions to mitigate risks and enhance safety within the organization.

About the Role

As a Radiation Safety Engineer, you will lead the ongoing hazard analysis process for neutron scattering instruments and the Bunker. Your role will involve coordinating closely with engineers, safety experts, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

You will play a critical part in analyzing radiation hazards, producing documentation for regulatory approval, and developing safety functions to mitigate risks.

Start Date: ASAP.
Location: Lund, Sweden.

Duration: 12 months (with potential extension).

Key Responsibilities
  • Hazard Analysis Leadership: Lead and coordinate the hazard analysis process for neutron scattering instruments and the Bunker to identify and define radiation safety functions to mitigate risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Work closely with other divisions and licensing bodies to ensure compliance with Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) requirements, and provide documentation to support regulatory approval.
  • System Analysis & Updates: Guide non-expert system owners through the process of updating existing hazard analysis, ensuring effective implementation of hazard analysis procedures.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify gaps and areas for improvement in hazard analyses and accident analyses, and lead efforts to update and mitigate risks.
  • Collaboration & Documentation: Work alongside engineers from diverse backgrounds, producing clear and comprehensive documentation that supports the hazard analysis process and regulatory submissions.
  • Radiation Safety Expertise: Provide radiation safety support to partners and ensure adherence to guidelines, standards, and quality procedures related to safety systems.

About You

We’re looking for a Radiation Safety Engineer with:

  • Proven Experience in Hazard Analysis: A successful track record in performing hazard analysis, especially in the context of radiation safety.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Processes: Familiarity with regulatory requirements, especially the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) licensing process, is highly beneficial.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal English skills are essential for documentation and interaction with stakeholders.
  • Collaborative & Methodical: Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams and producing well-written documentation that aligns with industry standards.
  • Relevant Academic Background: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a focus on hazard evaluation and safety function development.
